The Spring/Summer 2027 season of Shanghai Fashion Week ran from October 8 to 16, kicking off the week with a Silk Road collection by the homegrown label Hemu, according to Vogue. Co-organized by Orient International, the event ushered the city into a "Fashion Maxxing" moment. Throughout the season, professional runways were extended further into commercial spaces, public cultural venues, and city blocks through an ongoing series of fashion debuts, trade orders, industry forums, international premieres, and urban fashion activities, as reported by the Shanghai State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission.
According to CNN, Shanghai Fashion Week featured more than 80 runway shows and presentations in the city often referred to as the "Paris of the East." Among the closing events was a presentation by the label Osschaert, led by designer duo Kong Yue and Xie Yonghao. Instead of utilizing a traditional runway, the label staged a poignant and at times unsettling theater presentation about memory and loss. The audience was transported into a forest-like environment featuring turf and scattered leaves on the ground, entering a dream-like set that centered around the workshop of a young, aspiring designer. The narrative drew directly from the personal story of co-founder Xie Yonghao, who was studying abroad in Antwerp and did not make it back in time to see his grandmother before she passed away. During the presentation, actors appeared mostly in white garment prototypes before eventually coming together in their finalized, ethereal forms. Additionally, the Chinese brand incubator Labelhood, co-founded by Tasha Liu, helped stage shows for labels such as Mark Gong and Shushu/Tong, while the Youtopia showcase provided a platform for emerging Chinese designers, many of whom are recent graduates.
Incubator initiatives also played a major role in the Jing'an district's fashion activities during the week. As reported via Sohu, citing Shangguan News, the Jing'an Fashion Creative platform used the fashion week cycle to highlight four core areas: emerging incubation achievements, cross-border collaborations with major brands, international resource sharing, and multi-scenario exhibition releases. Incubated emerging designer teams from the platform made a comprehensive appearance in the official release system, landing three original themed debut shows on the Shanghai Fashion Week runways. Simultaneously, they established a presence across two exhibition halls—the Lab Showroom and the Tube Room—creating a complete closed loop of static new product releases, buyer matchmaking, and industry exchanges to boost their visibility and commercial implementation.
Individual designers from the Jing'an platform also secured industry honors and high-level collaborations during the Spring/Summer 2027 cycle. Emerging designer Chen Sifan (CHEN SIFAN) was named one of Asia's top ten focus designers by the Hong Kong Design Centre (HKDC) in recognition of a stable, pioneering creative strength and mature personal design system. Furthermore, the Mercedes-Maybach haute couture atelier collaborated with Chen Sifan on a project interpreting the theme of "classics and rebirth," utilizing hand-stitched craftsmanship to pay tribute to the past while living in the present. Meanwhile, emerging designer Enci Huang of ENCIICNE was invited to participate as a special guest artist in a themed lecture and exchange sharing session at Chanel's le19M exhibition (la Galerie du 19M Shanghai), engaging directly with international craftsmanship systems and luxury creation logic. Through the window of Shanghai Fashion Week, the Jing'an platform continues to link international fashion resources and conduct regular high-end industry matchmaking to expand the district's international cooperation map.
